HUEMANMirus Gallery announced the unveiling of its newest exhibition, “Just One Moment,” by Hueman. The opening reception, which will be open to the public, will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. on Sept. 19 and the show will continue through Oct. 10.

Following a recent relocation to the Bay Area from Los Angeles, “Just One Moment” is the artist’s first solo exhibit after her return to her home city. The show features over 15 new paintings on canvas and wood displaying Hueman’s distinct use of bold colors and free flowing textures, while comparing conflicting ideologies to works that are simultaneously balanced and unsettling.

“I am constantly seeking balance between the beautiful and the grotesque, the abstract and the figurative and that golden moment between sleep and awake,” Hueman explains.

“Just One Moment” aims to draw in the viewer to absorb ethereal scenes and cause emotion with each work, both individually and as a whole. The physicality of a moment becomes especially integral to this solo exhibition, drawing in the viewer to absorb ethereal scenes, suspending a moment and causing emotions to linger and simmer. As if viewing through a prism, the scenes and faces in “Just One Moment” are fragmented, bending and distorting light, color and reality. The subjectivity of a moment stretched to infinity allows each piece to offer a different perspective of the same instance in time. Nothing is as black and white as we are led to believe, and Hueman’s work exists in these ethereal grey zones, confronting the complex dichotomies and emotion that are inherent in how we perceive ourselves and our positions in the world.
